MAURI ORA KI TE RANGI, MAURI ORA KI TE WHENUA, MAURI ORA KI NGĀ HAU E WHĀ!
Sometimes You See It; Sometimes You Don’t...
The real cost of mental health problems in the workplace.
There’s no doubt about it; mental health problems impact workforce productivity. The fact that only 22% of full-time workers with signs of common mental illnesses receive treatment is enough to make anyone stop and consider, just how many people are battling with something that you don’t know about?
Whether you’re the one who is suffering, the one who is trying to support, or the one who is managing the individual – navigating mental health issues can be tricky. What starts as one person needing help can quickly escalate, as feelings of concern, anxiety and distress bubble to the surface for all involved. And it’s made more challenging by the lack of mental health education that surrounds it.
$10.9 billion
…that’s how much is
estimated that untreated
mental health conditions
cost Australian
employers every year*.
$4.7 billion
in absenteeism
$1.6 billion
in Presenteeism
146 million
in compensation claims
People Matter And Investing in The Mental Health Of Employee And Community
Well-Being is Crucial To Happier, Engaged and Productive Individuals And Groups.
Every $1 invested in workplace mental health training, returns average of $2.30 in improved employee productivity.

Your People, Organisaton and Your Community
Employers and community leaders can play an active role in helping to minimise the cost of mental health illnesses. By training staff on recognising and understanding common mental health problems, little issues can be spotted well before they turn into bigger ones.
When people know who to turn to, or know how to communicate with someone who might be experiencing a problem, those feelings of concern, anxiety or distress can be alleviated, and productive and effective workplaces can be restored.
